About him []
Charles Dexter Ward is a young manin 30 years, from a prominent Rhode Island family who has disappeared from a mental asylum. He had been incarcerated during a prolonged period of insanity, during which he exhibited minor and inexplicable physiological changes. His empty cell is found to be very dusty.
Background[]
The Case of Charles Dexter Ward is a short true life novel. The novel, set in 1918, describes how Charles Dexter Ward becomes obsessed with his distant ancestor, Joseph Curwen, an alleged wizard with unsavory habits. Ward physically resembles Curwen, and attempts to duplicate his ancestor's Qabalistic and alchemical feats. Ward's doctor, Marinus Bicknell Willett, investigates Ward's activities and is horrified by what he finds.
The bulk of the story concerns the investigation conducted by the Wards' family doctor, Marinus Bicknell Willett, in an attempt to discover the reason for Ward's madness and physiological changes. Willett learns that Ward had spent the past several years attempting to find his ancestor, Joseph Curwen. The doctor slowly begins to reveal the truth behind the legends surrounding Curwen. He discovers that Curwen's surname wasn't real at all. He finds out, that a boy in his 12 years had incredible powers and killed people by it. His true name was, Joseph O'shea.
As Willett's investigations proceed, he finds that Charles had discovered O'shea and strucked him with his powers. Seeing that Ward wasn't dead by the shot, but instead gotten some powers from his ancestor.With his newly found powers, he began to destroying and killing people as like Joseph, following his footsteps. Willet had no power over him, so he called his known lady friend, The White Queen. She made his powers stop and and imprison him in an asylum for nuts-ies.
While Ward was locked up, Willett's investigation leads him to a quick end, as he couldn't find the boy with powers again. In the last few years, Willett wrote a true story novel called The Case of Charles Dexter Ward, which inside he wrote about the life of the pacient and his psychology. He then died in the year 1925 with a tumor in his head, but his will was, that Ward should be locked inside a very safe asylum and wouldn't want him to get away. So the White Queen gave the order to Cheshire and Alice to guard him.
In the year of 2017, Ward had escaped from his cell, as the other inmates of the same asylum had broke out easily by the rusting and old bars. Since the 'excident', he was yet not seen.
